Best cichlids for 55 gallons??

I did have 2 Oscars that were best friends but I would like to have something other then Oscars. Is there any other cool cichlids that can go together? I did go and look at a few, I like Jacl Dempseys, they didn't get along with my oscars though, and I saw a photo of a green serverum and liked the look of them but I don't know what to get with them. Help, I am looking for any ideas. Thanks!

You say you did have 2 Oscars. If you don't have them now and are looking for some good Cichlids for in a 55 gal tank then you should consider these few for some options...
A pair of Green Terrors.
A pair of Jack Dempseys.
A Pair of Blue Acaras.
The Blue Acaras are the least aggressive of those and If you pair up a male and female of any of those you could just have some little fish in your tank before too long.
i recommend going to your local pet shop and asking. that way you can see what's available and what's compatible with your current fish. fish are cool!
If you choose African cichlids, make sure to go with ones from Lake Victoria, which are less aggressive than those from Lake Malawi.
You can also choose cichlids from other regions, but in a 55-gallon tank, that is not a lot of room for aggressive species, so try to choose less aggressive species.
South or Central American cichlids are beautiful, also, but you'll need to research which species are more and less aggressive.
Oscars don't like other fish, only Oscars and they have to have been put in the tank at the same time! Do not put other fish in with Oscars...they may either kill or maim the other fish. If you want other types of Cichlids (sp?), start a new tank. I've had chocolate Cichlids, they are really nice, especially if you have a mated pair, they are very good parents and both clean the eggs and watch over the young.
