Barracuda-eaten. dempseys-ready to eat live feeders?

i have three 4-5" dempseys and 2 freshwater barracuda AKA silver hujeta gar. well anyways, i walked into my room and was goin to feed my dempseys when i seen that they had already had a snack! one of my barracudas was on the bottom of the tank with only a head and spine. anyways i left it in there and i came back a few hours later and all that was left was the jaw bone. boy my dempseys are cravin live fish. im gonna wait till they are bigger though. because when i got them they were 2" and they would only eat the eyes of the feeders. do u think they will eat live fish yet?
Answers:
They will definatly eat guppies and rosie reds. They will probable eat small goldfish too. Feeders are generally kept in very poor conditions so i would recomend looking at the tanks carefully befor buying then getting a 10 gal tank to keep them in. Then every few days plop a few in your main tank. The gar will love feeders, trust me i have 4 silver hujeta and 2 spotted gar. They eat only feeders and are close to 10 inches now (they are young, only about 7 months old)
If you avoid feeders try to up the feedings to save your Hujeta. The dempseys prolly struck it due to being under fed.
And to note: a correction to you: Silver Hujeta are not actually gar they are Characins
Sounds like they already do! Just kidding. Yeah they will most likely eat any feeders you put in there now, but it's best to only give these occasionally. They have a reputation for being disease ridden because of the way they are kept in overcrowded tanks. Stick mostly to the standard foods such as flakes and worms (blood or garden)
Feeders aren't great for fish in terms of nutrition and have the reputation for carrying disease. Your JD's don't need live food. Stick with flakes/pellets or worms.
