I want to make my tank "super healthy". Right now I do about 20% water changes weekly with a gravel vac. I'm thinking about 10% the other 6 days per week. Not vacuuming the gravel, just removing 10% of the water and replacing it.
The water is clear and the fish are healthy, but I want to go beyond just the minimum.
Will this help? Hurt?
Answers:
you don't need to do water changes every day every 2 weeks in fine,
i do a water change when needed i check my levels in the tank first then if i see there rising i do a 25 percent water change.
if there is not a problem don't try fixing it
do not change your water every day, not even 10% as eventually the amount of chlorine going in will catch up with the fish, the best thing is to carry on as you are with a 20 or 25% water change once a week. that is all you need :) just remember that a "super healthy" tank, does not have to mean "super clean".
if you do a water change each day, the chlorine will end up killing the bacteria in your sponge and cause more problems to your tank than good.
Of course not, I do a 25% water changes a day in all my tanks (And 50% in my fry (baby) tanks.) Rather than just taking the water out the other 6 days why not just do the gravel whist your at it? Not all of it just anough of the gravel until there is about 10% of the water out.
Just remember to de-chlorinate the water.

i would suggest understocking your tank before going to such an extreme. people that keep discus often do multiple water changes a week to keep the water really clean. perhaps you could research how to keep a discus tank and go from there.
Most fish types, 10% every day will do fine.
I do 20% every other day on my overstocked tank %26 it comes out fine. On my non-overstocked tank I do 30% on saturdays %26 20% on wednesdays.
There are actually plumbing systems available for fish tanks (if you're wealthy) that automatically change exactly 10% every day with reverse osmosis water.
Be sure to dose your dechlorinator appropriateley and have sufficient biological filtration (like a sponge prefilter).
you don't want to do that, because you will overclean your tank and that is very unhealthy for your fish
25% weekly partial waterchanges with a gravel siphon is perfect
Hope that helps
Good luck

For a very long time, aquarists have argued whether changing water often is a good thing. Many of my aquarist friends, including my self, do 50% weekly water changes with gravel vaccuum. My tank has been set up for years and is beautiful and I haven't lost a fish yet.
Saying that, I think that if you do 10% dailys not only will you tire yourself out, but it might cause unessicary stress having a foreign object in thier homes. I would stick with a 40-50%er weekly..,.
you should not do a daily water change.
do a 25 - 50% every week depending on size of tank and how stocked it is
