i have 8 baby guppy, i had them for 2 months now and only one of them shows color.{on the tail} the other baby are just white, i keep them in a glass vase and feed them grinded goldfish food. there are no plants and no filter i change the water once or twice a week. the guppy are all healthy and are behaving normally why dont they have there colors yet

Maybe they are too young still. Or perhaps they are females, dont they have very minimal colors?
Late bloomers.
They could just be white or albino guppies that is one type of guppy that exists
I think it's most likely gonna take more time, because you raise them in a vase and not in a filtered and heated tanks as recommended
You may also stunt their growth, if you don't get them outta there soon

White? Mine are mostly clear. They should develop their colors pretty soon, though, if they're going to. What did the mother look like?
you need to wait a bit longer... most guppies start showing more colours at around 3 months
it really depends on which kinds of guppies you have. for exmaple, i noticed that my fry tends to be females rather then males. as a result, the fish you have might be females. they would have less colors or none at all. also, they might be of different age. sometimes, it'll take longer.
what kind of guppies do you have : fancy or feeder? i kno feeder females don't have color at all. i can only tell by the gravid spot.
Trust me, they are just a little late. It took my guppies about a month and half till they had some color.
Reaons that they might be still white:
1) Are females... females are less colorful than male guppies. Female guppies' tales are also less longer. So if your baby guppies don't have very long tales that are proportional to their body, they might be females.
2) Are feeder guppies. These are also called wild guppies. It means that these guppies are meant for feeding other fish, and aren't very attractive... so they don't have much color.
3) Late bloomers.
You should also seperate your guppies into different tanks or purchase a larger tank. For about 8 guppies... you might need a 10 gallon tank for now. Keeping the guppies in such a small tank, will cause them to stop growing. If you'd like to make your tank more decorative, I suggest buying a plant. You can get them at the store for less than $5. I suggest a banana plant. Thesegrow very long, and look great in a large/long tank.

Baby betta fish??

Fry often change colour as they mature. Even adult bettas can change their colours as they age. It might be helpful for you to provide the strain and colouring of your breeding pair.
It depends on what the parents color are the most common is Blac, Blue and Red and there are also white ones after around 1-3months the color will start to show.
And also Keep the water temperature at 75 to 85degrees Fahrenheit and Clean the tank when needed and The color will be bright and if the color is some what pale then check it just to make sure.

Aw...My Balloon Molly and Betta died. :[[?

My male Betta, Mr Misfit, died the other day. He had seemed to be lonely and a woman sold me two females to keep him company. She claimed that they could all live together. Mistake #1.
It was young females and as they grew older one of them seemed to be more dominant than the other. I figured that it was a good thing since Mr Misfit seemed to need a feisty woman. Mistake #2.
Mr Misfit ended up getting really badly beaten. I put him in a tank of his own so that he could heal, but I didn't have time to monitor him properly. Mistake #3.
He died. And now to the point of the story... It turns out that the dominant female isn't a female, it's a short finned male. Short finned males look very much like females when they are young, and it took me hours of searching online and asking here on Y!A to figure out that she was really a he.
I've put my (semi) new male in a tank of his own now and he is already producing bubbles, now I'm thinking about putting him and the female together to see if they spawn. Breeding the gender confused Betta might not be profitable but I think it could be fun, and it would ease the pain of losing Mr Misfit.
okay.. well one time my goldfish was trying so hard to swim against the filters current! it was such a funny site!

My betta Dagon died today. He was my first. He was the one who really got me interested in bettas. When I got him, I didn't know anything about betta fish so I started researching online. The more I read, the more I fell in love with these beautiful creatures. Before you know it I was ordering bettas from aquabid to breed. Now, I have owned close to a hundred, if not more bettas and have bred a few times, too. I run my own betta website and am, pretty much, completely and hopelessly obsessed with bettas! And it is all thanks to a pretty little blue/red veiltail named, Dagon. RIP Dagon, you will be missed terribly :(
One morning I awoke at 8:00 am and the first thing I did was shift my eyes to the fish tank. I saw something quickly dart across my tank and my betta ate it. As you could imagine this early in the morning right after I arose, I was freaked out. What the heck, my mind spun as I jumped to my feet and ran over to my fish tank. TONS of baby mollies were swimming around while my other fish tried to eat them, my betta being the most dangerous because he was determined and was sneaky. (he could land on a rock and stay there for minutes until a baby got close enough and he'd snap at it). Well then I scooped them all up (16) and placed them in a plastic breeder and now they are still growing in a 10 gallon tank by themselves. One is beginning to show its lyretail.
Another molly story: My dalmation sailfin male finally bred to my gold dust lyretail female (both passed away) and she had babies. Sadly only two survived the ordeal and they were the most precious males I have ever had. Their coloring was striking! A deep orange with dark black spots and golddust. They had a lyretail and a sailfin. I was so proud of my newly grown fry. Then it was too cold to keep the goldfish outside in the pond and we didn't have an open tank at the time so what do you know, he went in with my male mollies and my betta. Fish, one of the adolescent fry died...I was so mad! I found his half eaten, broken body on the floor of the tank...he was so healthy the day before. I thought it was my betta so I condemmed him to a life in a bowl. Then the biggest adolescent molly was swimming and then I come in with him in my gold fishes mouth, the big sucker swallowing him, eating him, then spitting out some flesh, then eating that. Boy was I steamed! I was sad I blammed my betta and let him back into my tank and that goldfish went instead!
Also one of the first mollies we had were black velvets. So one of the females had babies and only one survived and he was my sisters fish. His name was dash because he was really fast, arrowdynamic, and small (never grew full size). Well Dash was trouble. He attacked every fish in the tank to a point of ick. Also, his eyes were red and gold...they changed color with light. Finally my sister let me iscolate him and he was still as furious when I let him out as before. So he harassed all my fish until he died (thank goodness) but my sister was so sad.
That is all I can think of now.I might write more if I think of any!
my fish was looking like he was gonna die he was kind floating but still moving. so my dad started banging on the side of the bowl, I told him not to and to just let him die in peace but my dad kept banging until finally my fish coughed up something it was large and round, we all thought it was his heart but it couldnt have been because he was back to normal and simming around the bowl happily, so my mom took the round thing out and it wasa piece of food, it had expanded in him or something,he is an old beta so I guess his body cant handle the hard food anymore cause now we just feed him baby beta food and he's happy as ever :) cheer up

At least how many inches does Oscar fish grow in a 5 gallon tank?

Contrary to popular belief, the size of the tank does not stop a fish from growing. An oscar, if kept long enough, and if it were to somehow survive such a microscopic and, eventually, toxic environment, would still grow to its full adult size of 5 to 12 inches, depending on the species. But, the thing is, if a poor oscar were forced to live in a 5 gallon tank for very long, it would simply die because it just couldn't survive in such a tiny, tiny toxic tank.
The Oscar fish should never live in a 5 gallon tank. They will get upto a foot long. You need atleast a 55 gallon to keep him in.
And in a 5 gallon tank he might grow a couple of inches but he needs his space so move him to a 55 gallon tank. Hope i was helpful
Any Oscar in the world is capable of growing 12 inches. The larger males can grow past 16". It will grow to about 4 or 5 inches in that tank and soon after will die, murdered by an ignorant fish keeper. You keep asking all these questions about Oscars in tiny tanks. Here's your answer for all of them:
NOTHING LESS THEN 40 GALLONS FOR A SINGLE OSCAR, PERIOD.
None ,he will die before he gets a chance to grow.If you really want an oscar save up and get a good size tank( 50 gallons) for him.
At how old do female bettas start to lay eggs?
Answers:
6-8 months is about when you see them getting into breeding condition. This can vary quite a bit, but you shouldn't breed them too young.

Prime breeding age for bettas is between 4-12 months. Females slow down egg production around 6 months and will produce smaller spawns. They can be bred after 12 months but they require longer conditioning and must be in optimum health before even trying. There is greater risk of the fish dying after spawning the older they are, and the less eggs will be produced the older they are, also. I know that in asia they start spawning their bettas at 3 months and by 5 months they don't use the females at all any more. And btw, they don't "lay" the eggs. The eggs are inside them. During the spawning process the male will wrap himself around the female, squeeze out the eggs, fertilize them and then put them into the nest he's built.
Assorted Angelfish Death?? :(?
I have 3 angelfish and would've had six but 3 of them died they were all striped ones. The ones that survived where white/golden ones. What is different from these two angelfish. Should I stick to the white/gold angelfish or should I try to add different ones?

the striped ones are called silver angelfish and the gold white ones are simply called gold angelfish. Did you get these from a petco or petsmart? because chances are they will die if you got them there. it does not matter what type of angelfish you have, their dieing for a reason and you need to find out. check all your water parameters and dont get anymore of them until you know what is happening to them. also here is a awesome site were people sell and buy angelfish along with everything aquarium and almost every fish. good luck.

It was either a coincidence that those three died or something wrong with the particular shipment of fish. Did they come out of different tanks at the pet store? If the striped ones were from the same shipment, but the golden ones weren't, they could have had some sort of extra stress in shipment or disease that spread to them while stressed. Watch your other fish and make sure they don't develop any signs of illness. If you're really worried, set up a smaller tank that you can use to quarantine new fish for a couple of weeks after purchase. That way if they are ill they won't spread it to your healthy tank. If your fish die look for anything that might clue you in to what happened and talk to someone at a pet store. Generally people at smaller individually owned pet stores know more about the fish than at bigger chain stores, but thats not always true.

If I was in your place, my choice would be the Chili Red. I honestly think these violet supers are just malaysian blues crossed with super reds myself, I just can't find any documentation on it. All pics I've seen on one, that is my first guess though. Chili Reds are very very nice, and the only other red I feel, in my opinion, is the Super and Blood Red's. At $700.00, if you have your microchip documents, I'd say you are paying for a Grade A fish and would be a good deal. I did follow up with you on email and answered the other question :)
